Plot summary
In Greenland, chunks of ice fall from the Helheim Glacier into the Arctic Ocean, and Coast Guard captain James Maine investigates there with Dr. Kim Patterson, a glaciologist. On April 10, 2012, exactly a century after the RMS Titanic's maiden voyage, a new liner bearing the same name is christened and departs New York for Southampton on the reverse route. Captain Will Howard commands, and the ship's designer Hayden Walsh and nurses Amy Maine and Kelly Wade are aboard. When James Maine warns that a tsunami is driving ice toward them, an engine is damaged as the ship rushes for shore. The wave and a large iceberg strike, crushing the starboard side and the lifeboat ramps and injuring many passengers. Hayden and Amy head below decks, find Kelly hurt, and make for the upper decks.

- The RMS Queen Mary, a hotel ship permanently docked in Long Beach, California, doubled as the Titanic II for its departure scenes and some interiors. It had earlier stood in for the SS Poseidon in The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and the original Titanic in the 1979 miniseries S.O.S. Titanic.
