Bajirao Mastani (2015) on Netflix

Plot summary

After Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath dies, the Maratha court of Chhatrapati Shahu weighs his successor. Ambaji Pant Purandare names Vishwanath's young son, Bajirao, who answers a test of tactics and becomes the new Peshwa. Ten years on, Kashibai is his chief consort. During a campaign at Sironj, Bajirao is approached by a Bundelkhand envoy seeking help against invaders; she is Mastani, the warrior-princess daughter of King Chhatrasal and his Persian consort Ruhaani Bai. Bajirao joins the defense, and at the Holi celebrations that follow the two fall in love. He gives her his dagger, not knowing that the gesture amounts to a marriage proposal in Rajput tradition. Mastani comes to Pune to claim her place as his wife, and Radhabai and Chimaji Appa object to her Muslim lineage.
