Plot summary
Tessa Hurst is attacked while she walks home from school and afterward cannot speak. Dr Lomax tries to help her. Weeks pass, and a second girl, Susan, is assaulted and killed. Julie West, who teaches art, finds Susan's body while she is out with pupils and sees the attacker. The police have no answer. Julie agrees to serve as bait, working with a reporter and against a psychologist's advice, with Sgt. Milton assigned to guard her.
