Plot summary
Jason Lair is recently separated and walks with a limp. He lives in Los Angeles with his ailing grandfather Henry, his young son Zach and the live-in nurse Katrina. Jason is not glad to see his father Turner, a musician who left thirty years ago and disappeared into addiction. Henry, an archaeologist, wants the family to take the old van to Albuquerque, and the others refuse. Henry leaves instructions, and after his death the three surviving men take the trip as the terms of his will: he was cremated with his dog, and they must drive to New Mexico, opening each set of instructions in a KFC restaurant and scattering ashes nearby.
