Plot summary
Samuel Rainsford calls himself an Apex Warrior and has made a fortune in pharmaceuticals. He shoots a man, then tells a computer interface that he has grown bored with his game and asks for a tougher opponent. Thomas Malone has spent years behind bars on a life sentence and has lost touch with his family. A game-master brings him an offer: stay alive on a private island while five rich participants hunt him, and he goes free. Malone accepts, since it is his one route back to his family. He arrives on the island, where the hunt is set.
