Plot summary
Sharyn Berkley is admitted for emergency surgery on an inflamed appendix. She wakes to find her incisions almost closed, with Dr. Aaron Hellenbach at her bedside saying the facility has unconventional healing methods. She runs from her room and staff sedate her. In the ward she meets Cassandra Franklin, Rizzo, Marjorie, Lester and Everett, who says his cut-out tongue grew back; they describe an experimental facility and an Indexing, when one of them is chosen for a procedure, and Rizzo says he was impaled. Hellenbach lets Sharyn use the phone in his office while she talks about Nico, her ex-boyfriend and a drug trafficker, but the line stays dead.
