Plot summary
Farmer Jones falls behind on the mortgage, and the bank takes Manor Farm and arranges to sell it to Pilkington Industries, which is run by the billionaire Frieda Pilkington. The animals believe they are being taken on vacation. Snowball, a sow, works out what the new owner has in mind for them and argues that the animals should rise against the humans. They drive the owners off the land, rename the place Animal Farm, and choose Snowball and the boar Napoleon as co-leaders, drawing up a set of laws meant to stop them from turning into people. Running the farm on their own proves difficult, and Napoleon objects to Snowball's plan for a watermill that would generate electricity.
