Plot summary

Grant University hires Elizabeth "Libby" Lamm as an adjunct professor of foreign policy, and she arrives to protests and to colleagues who keep their distance. Before this she advised Vice President Rachel Burke on national security, and a Capital Dispatch op-ed in which she defended her part in an American attack made her recognizable. Libby goes without email, phone or computer, writes late at her desk and locks the full pages in an antique safe, and she keeps a loaded gun at home. Martin, a sullen graduate student, follows her and installs cameras in her house. Adrian, the president's chief of staff, comes to ask that she say nothing about the operation; she refuses, and he returns wanting her loyalty to the administration.
