Plot summary
Annie Baker is a wife and a mother in an Amish household. Her husband, Jacob Baker, leaves the Amish word and goes to live among the English, the name the Amish use for the non-Amish Americans around them. Jacob comes back and asks for custody of the couple's son, Caleb. He is ready to go as far as violence to get the boy.
