Plot summary
In Jackson Heights, Queens, Sam Khan is a career-driven Pakistani-Muslim-American woman working in the corporate world, where she faces discrimination. Her younger sister Maryam is a Harvard-bound medical student balancing her ambition with the family's expectation that she marry. Their cousin Ameera arrives from Pakistan wanting a traditional love story and a suitable husband, ideally a Pakistani-American doctor. Sam rejects marriage and is drawn to Zane, a charming cop. Maryam, who has not prioritized romance, grows close to Shahid, a fellow medical student, and struggles with self-doubt. Ameera, searching for a doctor to marry, also meets Gabriel, a Muslim convenience store owner.
