Plot summary
Alan Schaeffer is a wealthy recluse who lives behind the security of an isolated mansion. Detective DiBiasse has heard the man's account: Schaeffer said that something he had made was on its way to destroy him, and he offered no evidence to back the claim. The guards around him reported seeing nothing. With nothing to act on, nobody could help Schaeffer, and the police moved on to other cases. DiBiasse is now back at the mansion with a new detective at his side, telling the strange story of the man inside: the recluse who waited through a night for a creation of his own to arrive.
