Plot summary
Nana Kunning is a struggling mother who takes her two young sons to an isolated site where a faith healer called the Architect chooses patients by lottery. Her younger son Gully has an inoperable brain tumor, but he is not selected, and a disruption involving Ivan's falcon turns the crowd against the family. The Architect tells Nana that she healed a blind boy and begins training her. A childhood accident leaves Ivan estranged from Nana, and he grows up to become a falconer. In the present, journalist Jannia Ressmore arrives to interview Ivan about his birds. When Ivan learns that Jannia intends to interview Nana, he decides to join her, and the two travel together toward Nana's isolated retreat.
