Plot summary
Alexander Garcia lives with his sister Mia, who is waiting for a prom invitation, his mother Val, his father Frank, and his grandmother Lidia. Alexander is sure the family is cursed. Val's father, Gil, arrives to watch the dog while they leave on a magazine-paid spring break trip. In the attic, Alexander comes across an old Mexican idol. Gil says brujas gave it to his grandfather Alejandro to make his farm prosper, and that a fire burned the town of Soledad after he failed to return it. Frank decides to throw it away. The family sets off in a green RV, and a spilled drink sends it out of control. At a rental agency, Alexander and Mia find the idol packed with their belongings, and the owner of the botánica says it must go back to Soledad.
