Plot summary
Tessa Young and her boyfriend Hardin Scott bring her father Richard, who has been left homeless by his drinking, to stay in their apartment. Tessa wants the time to build a relationship with him; Hardin does not trust him and offers him money to leave. Tessa is preparing to move to Seattle for her job with Vance Publishing, a plan Hardin argues against, since he hoped the two of them would go to London after graduation. Hardin's mother Trish asks him to attend her coming wedding in London, and mentions her close relationship with Christian Vance. A weekend at the family lake house follows, and Hardin lets go of some of his hostility toward his relatives.
