Plot summary
Police detective Mickey Hayden is ordered to take a fresh look at a case he first worked ten years earlier. A killer known as Jabberwocky murdered a series of victims and then vanished, and Hayden never found him. The failure left him with emotional scars and a drinking problem. After ten quiet years the killer acts again and sends the police a note asking that Hayden be given the case back. The killer's obsession is the novel Alice in Wonderland. As Hayden works the case, he finds that handling the evidence brings visions of the murders, showing him more than he would rather know.
