Denis Akiyama
Biography
Denis Akiyama was a Canadian actor who began in film before working on stage. Born in Toronto in 1952, he studied acting at George Brown College and was known for playing Shinji in the cyberpunk film Johnny Mnemonic (1995). He appeared in David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers, Space Truckers (1996), Cypher (2002), The Pacifier (2005), and Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), and played Pac-Man creator Tōru Iwatani in Pixels (2015). On television, he had regular roles on Katts and Dog and She's the Mayor, and he voiced Silver Samurai, Sunfire, and Dr. Darrel Tanaka on X-Men: The Animated Series and Malachite in the English version of Sailor Moon. His stage work included Miss Saigon on Broadway and in Toronto. He also voiced Tong Si Hung in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Akiyama died in 2018.

Akiyama earned a psychology degree at York University and worked in child care. He played trumpet in The Parachute Club and Pukka Orchestra, then studied acting at George Brown College.
