Plot summary
Luke Benning works as a journalist, and his story about Canadian snipers who may have mutilated corpses in Afghanistan is buried instead of published. He resigns, yet the buried story leaves him set on going back to Afghanistan for the real account. Tom, a friend of his, comes along. The country he finds is more dangerous than it was when he left it, and Mateen, the old friend who fixed things for him there, now works for Imran Sahar, a rival journalist. Luke needs enough evidence to bring his story back to print. As the trip goes on, the country strikes him as increasingly hard to comprehend.
