Plot summary
In 1974 the Conway family watches The Three Stooges at a Connecticut drive-in. Billy, one of four children, is accident-prone, and their neighbor Doug Post rides past on his bike. Driving home through the rain, an argument in the car distracts Ray Conway at the wheel, and the crash that follows kills Billy's sister Linda and leaves his brother Gene paralyzed and brain-damaged. Eight years later, Ray and Gloria are divorced. Billy is fifteen and still friendly with Doug, whom Gloria cannot stand. His older brother Larry drinks and taunts him. Gene's health could fail at any moment, and Billy starts to act out.
