Plot summary
Margot Hayes works as a realtor and Griffin Reed as a lawyer, and their homes are nearly identical, on matching streets in similarly named communities. On December 30, Margot expects a proposal from her boyfriend Kip so she can attend her sister's wedding engaged, but he does not ask, and she walks out. Griffin tries to propose to his girlfriend Clementine, an Instagram influencer who wants a public proposal the next night. He drinks with his friends, who put him in a taxi and give the driver Margot's address. Griffin lets himself in with the key under her flower pot and falls asleep. Margot comes home to a stranger in her bed. Kip comes for his tux, finds Griffin getting dressed, and leaves angry. Margot needs an escort for her sister's wedding, and nobody in her family has met Kip.
