A Performance of Macbeth (1979) on Netflix

Plot summary

Macbeth serves in the Scottish military, and three sorceresses greet him with a revelation: he will be King of Scotland one day. The news leaves him with a thirst for power, and his wife, Lady Macbeth, prompts him to kill the current leader and take the throne. The stage production was performed in the round before small audiences in a small studio theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, on a bare stage and in simple costuming. The television recording keeps that style: the cast works on a circular set against a mostly black background, and a change of setting is shown by lighting alone.
