4 Minute Mile (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Drew Jacobs runs on his high school track team until a clash with another runner, Eric Whitehall, drives him off it. He lives with his mother Claire and his older brother Wes, who sends him to carry money to the drug dealer Eli and to bring drugs back. Coleman, a former track coach and a neighbor, lives alone since his son died in a car accident. He notices Drew's speed, a mile covered in five minutes, as Drew runs to Eli's place and back, and takes him on as a pupil. Eli threatens the brothers over money Wes owes him. Drew grows close to his friend Lisa, a teammate, who was accepted into a UC Berkeley art program but cannot pay for it. Drew wants to break the four-minute mile, win a meet and earn a scholarship.
