Plot summary
The Yamakasi are a group of young men in a Paris banlieue who practice parkour, moving over rooftops and walls and outrunning the police. The neighborhood's youth admire them, the local chief of police does not, and Inspector Vincent Asmine worries that children will hurt themselves copying their stunts. Djamel, a boy with an inborn heart condition, tries to join two pupils climbing a tree and falls. At the hospital, his mother and his sister Aila are told he needs an immediate heart transplant. The chief physician offers to buy a heart from a broker for 400,000 francs within 24 hours, money the family does not have and the insurance will not cover. The Yamakasi visit Djamel, promise to train him, then take the names of the hospital board and plan robberies to raise the money.
