Plot summary
Bill Morgan has never lived anywhere but Washington, New Hampshire, and the rules he sets for himself keep the town in order. He finds Nikki Gold passed out in her rental car and arrests her, with no idea that she is a movie starlet who slipped away from the paparazzi in New York City. Nikki, hoping to dodge another publicity scandal, keeps quiet and settles into a few days of ordinary life. Bill's aunt May and his uncle, Chief Dale Nickens, belong to the town he watches over, while the entertainment journalist Vik Donowitz and Amos, a kid after a quick buck, take an interest in the newcomer.
