Nedra Volz

Born in Montrose, Iowa, Nedra Volz began her career as a toddler in her family's tent show, billed as Baby Nedra. She left that act at eleven, and after an unsuccessful try at high school drama she turned to music, singing with Cato's Vagabonds in the early 1930s. Starting with a 1975 episode of Good Times, she became a well-known supporting actress, mostly on television, usually cast as a grandmother or a feisty older woman. Her series work included Aunt Iola on All in the Family, housekeeper Adelaide Brubaker on Diff'rent Strokes, postal worker Emma Tisdale on The Dukes of Hazzard, Winona Beck on Filthy Rich and Pearl Sperling on The Fall Guy. On film she played Big Ed in Lust in the Dust (1985), Loretta Houk in Moving Violations (1985) and Lana in Earth Girls Are Easy (1988). She kept acting into her eighties, her final role coming in The Great White Hype in 1996.
