Plot summary
A dinner party brings two NASA scientists together, Dr. Keith Ritchie and his colleague Dr. Curt Taylor. Ritchie confides that he has been speaking in secret with a being from Venus named Zontar, who he says will come to Earth and solve the world's problems. The visitor does arrive, riding a fallen laser satellite. Zontar is a skeletal black creature with three eyes and bat wings, and its aims are not the ones Ritchie described. Local power outages stop telephones, cars, and running water. Flying pods sprout from the creature's wings and fasten onto people, taking over their minds, and important officials fall under Zontar's control.
