Plot summary
Zoe Armstrong has lived with leukemia since childhood, and when the latest course of treatment leaves her worse, her doctor tells her she has only months left. She withdraws from life, and her parents cannot draw her back. Then a space pod comes down in a field near the family home. Zoe and her father John free the man inside and bring him to the house. He calls himself Jacques and says he was born aboard a lost mission shuttle, and that he navigated to Earth as its only survivor. Everything on the planet is new to him, and Zoe sets out to show him what Earth holds, while her parents try to keep her from growing too attached.
