Plot summary
Laura Franco is a young actress living with a cancer diagnosis. Her boyfriend Jacob Sullivan, a playwright, breaks up with her, though she helped him write his play. Her friend Mazie drives her to the Manhattan house where she grew up, the place she has to live now after the breakup. Upstairs she finds a monster in the closet, who frightens her at first and tells her to move out. The two bond over theater, and he lets her stay. Monster urges her to audition for Jacob's play, especially the lead, which Jacob wrote for her. Jacob refuses to cast her.
