Plot summary
Joel writes horror film reviews for the magazine Vicious Fanatics and lives in Minnesota with Sarah, his roommate and the object of his unrequited crush. When Sarah's new boyfriend Bob drops her off at home, Joel grows jealous and follows Bob to a restaurant, where the two talk at the bar. Bob does not know who Joel is, speaks badly of Sarah's roommate, leaves with another woman and sticks Joel with the tab. Joel drinks heavily and nods off in a supply closet. He comes to after the restaurant has closed and wanders out to a meeting led by Zachary, with Carrie, Fritz, Mike and Hideo in attendance. The group takes Joel for Phil and Joel goes along, pitching his screenplay about a murderous cab driver to fit in.
