Plot summary
In 1940, all 572 people of Friar, New Hampshire left their homes wearing only the clothes they had, after the town became fixated on The Wizard of Oz. Nobody could say why. Around 300 of their bodies were found later; the rest were never located, and the trail was kept classified for decades. The coordinates are released in 2008, and a research team sets out to walk the route and see where it leads. Teddy Barnes, who found the coordinates at the town's movie theater, heads the crew: his wife Melissa, Walter Myrick, the mapmakers Daryl and Erin Luger, Cy Banbridge and Jill. In town they meet Liv McCann, who works at the theater and comes along. Early on the trail the group is unsettled by loud music that seems to come from nowhere.
