Plot summary
Theresa gives her dying mother a poison-laced cannabis cigarette so she can end her own life. When her mother is gone, Theresa inherits the house in rural Northern California. Nick, her boyfriend, would rather they live somewhere else, and she refuses to leave. She returns to work at the dispensary her friend Keith owns, noticeably withdrawn, and goes with Keith to a house party, where she talks with Johnny, a mutual friend younger than both of them. One day a sick elderly customer named Ed asks the shop for the same poison-laced cannabis. Knowing what he intends, she gives it to him and has an emotional breakdown.

For the sequence in which Theresa levitates in the forest, Kirsten Dunst was physically lifted in a harness 100 ft above the ground toward the tree canopy. Dunst said nobody gets to see the trees the way she got to see them, calling it one of the most incredible experiences she had ever had.- Kirsten Dunst prepared for the role of Theresa over the course of a year by undertaking dream experiments to inhabit the character's state of mind. She said the experiments let her tap into her unconscious, so that by the time she got to set she knew the character better than anybody else.
- Woodshock was shot exclusively on camera, with a single exception: the sequence in which Theresa's home appears to float, which was completed in post-production.
