Plot summary
Johnnie and his bandmates wait tables on a ferry until a pyrotechnics accident kills the power and they are dismissed, set adrift in a small boat with only their instruments. They come ashore in the Canary Islands and stumble into a desert film set, where Johnnie upsets a scene in progress. The director, Lloyd Davis, offers him work as a stunt double and finds the others jobs as runners. That evening Johnnie meets Jenny Taylor, a blonde actress reading a script who doubts she is good enough for the leading role; his advice about ignoring the cameras and crew does not help her, and Lloyd regrets casting her. The band, wanting to lift everyone's spirits, plot to turn the production into a musical.
