Plot summary
Thirty years after Blake watched a humanoid creature in the Oregon mountains on a hunting trip with his father Grady, he lives in San Francisco with his wife Charlotte, a journalist, and their daughter Ginger. His temper strains the marriage, and he is estranged from Grady. When Grady's death certificate and the keys to the childhood farmhouse reach him, Blake persuades Charlotte to leave the city and come with him to rural Oregon to sort through the house. On the road, a creature like the one from his childhood makes him swerve. It scratches his arm. The family shuts itself inside the farmhouse while the animal circles outside, and through the night Blake's behavior grows strange.

- Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling exited the Wolf Man project in December 2023 over scheduling conflicts; Gosling, who kept an executive producer credit, was replaced in the lead by Christopher Abbott, with Leigh Whannell returning to direct.
- Christopher Abbott was the first actor Leigh Whannell approached for the lead, and Whannell cast him after seeing him perform Danny and the Deep Blue Sea opposite Aubrey Plaza while on crutches with a shattered kneecap, which sealed the decision.
