Plot summary

Tara Talbot was born into Harley Dune's Travelling Freak Show, which is short of money, and she appears in it as the Wolf Girl because she has hypertrichosis, a rare genetic condition that covers her body in hair. The other people in the show love her, but the teenagers in the towns she visits shun her, and she longs for an ordinary life. In one town she meets Ryan, a boy whose mother is a doctor working on an experimental treatment that removes hair. Ryan steals doses of the drug from his mother's laboratory for Tara, and her hair begins to fall out.
