Plot summary

Ben and Zach have known each other since grade school, and their friendship survived high school even as Zach's carefree streak pulled them both into trouble. Ben was smitten with a girl who moved away before he could say anything. Twelve years on, Ben buries himself in long hours at a law firm, while Zach cares for the elderly at a nursing home. One resident, Mrs. Bessler, asks him to find her granddaughter before she dies. The photograph she hands over shows Heather, the girl Ben never forgot, who has been missing for seven years since going into the wilderness to protect the environment. Zach talks Ben into the trip, and Heather's British cousin Nigel comes along on the river journey.
