Plot summary
Joslyn is nineteen, one year out of high school, when she takes a position as the caretaker of Frank, an old man living in a vegetative state on a remote wooded island. The island has no cell signal and no internet, and Frank cannot respond to anything she does, so her work is a round of daily tasks performed without conversation or company. Meeting his needs, Joslyn moves between comfort in his presence and fear and anger toward him. As the routine repeats, its monotony begins to come apart, the boundaries between them give way, and she confronts questions of sexuality, guilt and loss.
