Plot summary
Jonathan Rivers designs buildings for a living; his wife Anna writes best-selling books. Mike, Jonathan's son from an earlier marriage, lives with them, and Anna is expecting a baby. One night Anna does not come home. Her car is discovered out of action beside a river, and her body turns up weeks later farther upstream. Officials treat the drowning as an accident. Before any of that, Raymond Price had told Jonathan that the dead send voices through radios, televisions and other electronics, and that he had captured Anna's. Jonathan rejected the idea and was angry at him. Now he calls on Raymond, meets Sarah Tate, a client of Raymond's grieving a fiancé of her own, and starts capturing messages himself.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about White Noise (2005)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- White Noise's unexpected box-office success on the first weekend after New Year's, historically a dead zone for new releases, changed how studios scheduled horror films; Universal chairman Adam Fogelson said in 2013 that early January "used to be a non-starter" until this film proved it could work.
- White Noise's January success paved the way for other studios to gamble on the same slot: Paramount's viral-marketed Cloverfield opened there in 2008 with a $40 million weekend that stood as the January record until Ride Along broke it in 2014.
