Plot summary
Katie Arneson has been pretending to have cancer for ten months. She swallows placebos, shaves her head and eats very little so that she looks sick. The lie has made her a minor celebrity at her university, brought in money through crowdfunding and won her friends, supporters and a girlfriend, Jennifer Ellis. The bursary she depends on, one meant for sick students, will stop unless she hands in copies of her medical records within the week. A medical resident agrees to create the paperwork, but he wants $2,000.

- Directors Yonah Lewis and Calvin Thomas said they wanted Katie to be morally ambiguous rather than a clear-cut villain, and noted that test audiences reacted more harshly to her as an unlikeable character than they likely would have to a male character with comparable flaws.
