Plot summary
Claire Spencer, a former concert cellist, lives with her husband Norman, a university scientist, at their home on a lake in Vermont. Tension has marked the marriage since her daughter Caitlin left for college, and a year has passed since Claire's serious car accident. Claire begins hearing voices and seeing unsettling things around the house, including a young woman's face in the water. Mary and Warren Feur, the new neighbors, have a volatile relationship, and when Mary disappears for several days, Claire's unease grows. Norman dismisses her fears and urges her to see a therapist. Claire tells the therapist the house may be haunted, and with her friend Jody she tries to make contact.
