Plot summary
Detective Jack Murphy has drifted since a fire took his wife and son. When his partner Gus Brody is killed in a manner too brutal for a human and too clever for an animal, the only leads are a wandering Golden Retriever and Dr. Grace Hudson, a scientist who seeks him out. Grace tells Jack that the dog, Einstein, is one half of a classified government experiment, bred with a high intelligence to track a genetically engineered killer called the Outsider. Jack and Grace set out to stop the Outsider before it kills again, while Lem Johnson and the NSA hunt everyone connected to the experiment.
