Plot summary
Patrick works as a veterinarian and Louise as a pharmacist, and their only child, Alice Daley, has just turned nine. Alice dies after a German Shepherd kept at her father's practice attacks her on her way home from school. Unable to have another child, the couple leave their old life and settle in the village of Wakewood. One evening their car breaks down near the house of Arthur, Patrick's veterinary colleague, and Louise sees a pagan rite being performed there. Arthur explains that the dead can be brought back for three days, as long as the body stays inside the townland and the person has been dead less than a year. Patrick and Louise decide to remain.

- Director David Keating shot Wake Wood partly in Sweden because of his love for the Swedish horror film Frostbite, and he hired that film's cinematographer Chris Maris to shoot it and its producer Magnus Paulsson as co-producer.
- Wake Wood was the first theatrical release from the genre production company Hammer Films in thirty years, bringing the studio back to cinemas.
