Plot summary
On the night of a temple festival in Madurai, SP Arunagiri plans to kill the former mobster Ravi and Ravi's son Kannan in a staged encounter. Ravi turns for help to Kaali, once his enforcer, who now runs a provision store and lives with his wife, Kalaivaani, and their children. Kaali does not want to return to violence, but he agrees when Ravi begs him and promises that he will not be caught. Ravi's nephew Venkat, a friend from Kaali's old life, helps him gather landmines from Ravi's old house; Kaali chooses traditional weapons over modern ones so that nothing can be traced back to them. He sets the mines along the route, connecting them with a string that Arunagiri's vehicle would trigger.

- S. U. Arun Kumar shot an 18-minute-long sequence featuring Vikram, S. J. Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu in a single take during the Madurai schedule.
- Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu, in his Tamil debut, insisted on acting in the film before S. U. Arun Kumar could even narrate the story, and okayed the script although he understood nothing of the Tamil narration.
