Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Vikram Vedha (2017)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film's story was inspired by the Indian folktale Baital Pachisi: the ghost Vetala posed morally ambiguous questions to King Vikramaditya, each with more than one answer, and the film's title and its characterisation of Vikram (Vikramaditya) and Vedha (Vetala) were also derived from that tale.
- Pushkar and Gayathri wanted a desaturated palette for the film's animated sequence, coloured mainly grey, black and white with red for Vetala's eyes; Prabhat and Jose chose traditional animation because complex graphics would distract from the plot, and it took a month and a half to storyboard and animate.
- Vikram Vedha was first given an "A" certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification because of its violence; the producers successfully appealed to the revising committee for a "U/A" certificate so that family audiences could watch it.
- The film's content and commercial success helped revive the box office prospects of the Tamil film industry; theatre owner Abirami Ramanathan of Abhirami Mega Mall and Mayajaal vice-president K Meenakshisundaram said audiences would come for good content regardless of the Goods and Services Tax.
- John Vijay was signed to play a gangster in Vikram Vedha but opted out due to scheduling conflicts with the Malayalam film Comrade in America (2017).
