Plot summary
Five found-footage episodes, introduced by stop-motion toy-soldier interludes, unfold in 1999. Punk band R.A.C.K. breaks into the Colony Underground, a venue that burned down three years earlier and killed Bitch Cat. Ankur warns about bhoota, and his bandmates pretend to be possessed. College freshman Lily chooses Beta Sigma Eta and is dared to spend the night buried in a coffin in a graveyard. On Ozzy's Dungeon, young Donna competes in physical challenges to win a wish for her poor family, but an obstacle-course injury ends her run. Brady makes toy-soldier animations, while his brother Dylan and friends film pranks before turning their camera on new neighbor Sandra. Videographers Nate and Troy accept a witch coven's job to film a ritual in which Kirsten offers herself as a vessel for Ukabon.

- V/H/S/85, announced on October 8, 2022 at a New York Comic Con panel promoting V/H/S/99, was secretly shot back-to-back alongside V/H/S/99, with David Bruckner, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani and Mike P. Nelson attached to direct.
- The producers first pitched Shudder a Christmas-set entry tentatively titled V/H/Xmas, plus a medieval-set film; Shudder rejected both pitches in favour of the 1999-set V/H/S/99.
- Producer Josh Goldbloom said a sequel would only happen if V/H/S/94 succeeded with streaming audiences; when V/H/S/94 broke Shudder's viewership records, the producers rushed a sequel into production for the following year.
