Plot summary
Rancher Joe Neal is strung up by land-grabbing vigilantes until Utah Blaine cuts him down. Neal hires him as foreman of his ranch. The men behind the hanging want the land for themselves: Russ Nevers, who intends to hold the whole territory, and Rink Witter, a gun for hire who is already Blaine's enemy. Utah finds allies in Angie Kinyon, the daughter of another landowner who was murdered, and in Mary Blake, a rancher holding property she means to keep. Gus Ortmann, a large and popular man in town, misunderstands Utah's purpose there and fights him. Utah's old friend Rip Coker arrives to protect him.
