Plot summary
Mario Fortini drives a tram and Silvio works in a bank. The two meet as participants in a survival training course and become friends within the group. The course puts the group through exercises meant to prove daring and through unusual gimmicks they have to learn, and it leaves them little food. Silvio is drawn to Cora, the wife of a fellow participant, a man who acts the soldier and wins every test the course sets.
