Plot summary
A man who harvests larvae for the effect they have on a human mind tasers Kris in a club and abducts her. She is made to swallow one, and it leaves her unable to refuse him. He keeps her busy with distractions, among them a paper chain whose links carry lines taken from Walden, while he empties her bank account, has her liquidate the equity in her home and tell him about a stash of rare coins. She is allowed no solid food while under his control, only small amounts of water at set intervals, and is made to find the water delicious.
