Plot summary
Black metal took shape in Norway, and the scene around it became infamous for murders and church arsons as much as for its music and its visual style. Musicians who were part of the movement speak in interviews about how it began, what it stood for and how it looked. They include Varg Vikernes, Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg, Olve "Abbath" Eikemo, Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg, Kjetil "Frost" Haraldstad and Bård "Faust" Eithun, who appears in silhouette with his voice distorted. Archival footage of the scene's early years includes Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and Per "Dead" Ohlin. The visual artist Bjarne Melgaard also takes part.
