Plot summary
Emily's glasses are broken, her sight is a blur, and she is hiding in Michigan woods with a phone as her only way out. Charlie, her ex-boyfriend, has trapped her in a cabin and wants her back or her dead; she got away, and the 911 dispatcher warns that finding her could take a while. In her missed call log she finds Sam, a gas station clerk in Florida who is heading into work, and begs her to stay on the line. With a video call as their only link, Sam steers Emily through the trees. While they walk, the two trade stories of their families: Emily hoped to work as an ER nurse like her mother, and Sam had left Jacksonville for Tallahassee to nurse her ailing mother, who has died.
