Plot summary
An armored truck loads an ATM, and a woman who withdraws a twenty dollar bill loses hold of it. Angeline, who is homeless, catches the bill and reads its serial number, certain the digits are the lottery numbers meant for her. A boy grabs it from her and spends it at a bakery, where the baker gives it to Jack Holiday as change for wedding cake figurines. Jack's daughter Anna is engaged to Sam Mastrewski, and at the rehearsal dinner Jack presents the bill to his future son-in-law. Sam takes the gift as a slight, and when friends haul him off to his bachelor party he hands the bill to the stripper to pay her.

- The screenplay was originally written in 1935 by Endre Bohem, decades before the film was made; his son Leslie found it in the 1980s and updated the language and plot before it was finally produced.
- The producers obtained several bills with consecutive serial numbers, as well as "every thousandth bill", so that some bills had the right first few digits of the serial number and others the right last few; the bills were then selectively damaged as the script required.
