Plot summary
Gacel Sayah lives as a Tuareg warrior in a remote part of the Sahara that the French once ruled. When two parched travelers reach his camp, he offers them water and a place to rest, as the laws of his people require. A unit of the new Arab government pulls up in a Jeep and orders him to hand the strangers over. Gacel refuses, saying that hospitality is sacred to him. The soldiers open fire, killing one of the pair, and take the other away. The man they seize is an opponent of the government. Gacel saddles his camel and sets out to bring his abducted guest home.
